MIgrei para o MariaDB faz tempo. Só que mal uso recursos avençados. Então até SQLITE daria, se ele não fosse tão ruim para escrita concorrente e se não fosse "type-flexible".

Então. O MariaDb não é melhor? Tudo que a Oracle comprou na minha opinião meio que começou a perder qualidade (inclusive Java, infelizmente). Ouvi falar que MariaDb tem features pagas do Mysql mas de graça ainda.

Tipo, até pra dotnet core a Oracle foi a última a lançar driver (e agora ainda está em beta). Todas as outras (free ou não) tinham driver desde 2016 (dotnet core 1.0) inclusive o MySql.

Pelo que entendi do artigo, muita coisa estava melhor que o MySQL 5. O problema é que a base de aprendizado de SQL normalmente comeća no MySQL, tanto que ele é apontado no artigo como a segunda maior instalaćão de banco de dados do mundo.

E como ele estava 'preso' em paradigmas da linguagem definida em 98, poucas pessoas estavam praticando as coisas novas.

Fazendo uma analogia burra, era como na época do IE6, que estava lá super feliz estando totalmente atrasado e fazendo o desenvolvimento web lento, enquanto outros browsers já tinha features atualizadas e melhores que o IE6. O mundo deu bons saltos quando tivemos o IE7 e IE8, porém nesta mesma época as pessoas estavam já migrando para outros browsers ao mesmo tempo.
