More than 4,000 people braved typhoon-fueled storms to pay their respects at Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's two-day funeral in Kyoto, the Wall Street Journal reports. Nintendo held two days of funeral services, according to Japanese custom, for Iwata who died of cancer on Saturday at the age of 55. Among those in attendance were Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime and director of product marketing Bill Trinen. Both Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda, who are currently running the company, were also in attendance. During a eulogy Friday, the Wall Street Journal reports, Takeda said that he and Miyamoto would work to complete what Iwata started. He added that the seeds Iwata planted would one day grow into flowers "that will make people around the world smile." Fans and developers from around the world spent the past week remembering the life and impact of Iwata. |
