Inmates escape after drinking with prison guard Sao Desiderio, Brazil – January 9th, 2005

Not wanting to have a New Year’s celebration alone, a prison guard at a small city jail at Sao Desiderio, Brazil, opened the cells, and shared his beer with the inmates. Of the five prisoners in his custody, three refused to participate in the party, while two rape suspects gladly accepted.

The guard, identified as Fernando de Oliveira, woke up after the celebration ended, sleeping in the cell once occupied by his two drinking buddies.

According to the other inmates, de Oliveira drank very heavily, and became sleepy. He gave his shotgun to one of the prisoners, and ordered him to watch the jail while he napped.

The two escaped suspects are still at large and considered armed and dangerous. The guard is still in jail and faces charges for aiding an escape.
